The Hidden Connection Between Sleep and Weight Loss: Why Your Night-Time Habits Matter More Than You Think

What if one of the biggest obstacles to your weight-loss journey isn’t your food, your exercise routine or your lack of motivation, but the way you sleep every night?

Most people believe weight loss is simply about eating fewer calories and exercising more. They spend hours researching diets, counting calories and searching for the perfect workout routine.

But there is another important factor that deserves attention: SLEEP.

Sleep is not wasted time. It is an essential biological process that supports physical recovery, brain function, hormone regulation and overall health.

When you consistently sacrifice sleep, you may unintentionally make it harder to maintain healthy eating habits, control cravings and stay physically active.

Let’s understand why your sleeping habits can influence your weight-management journey and how you can improve them.

1. Poor Sleep Can Influence Your Appetite

Have you ever noticed that after staying awake late at night, you suddenly feel hungry or start craving snacks?

There is a reason this can happen.

Sleep restriction can influence hormones and brain pathways involved in appetite regulation. It may also increase your desire for highly rewarding foods.

For example:

  • You may crave sugary snacks more frequently.
  • You may feel less satisfied after eating.
  • You may find it harder to control portions.
  • You may snack late at night simply because you are awake longer.

This doesn’t mean one sleepless night automatically causes weight gain. However, repeatedly sleeping too little can make healthy eating habits more difficult to maintain.

The lesson: Before blaming yourself for a lack of dietary discipline, take a closer look at your sleep routine.

2. Sleep and Your Body’s Energy Balance

Your body needs energy to perform everyday activities, from walking and working to breathing and maintaining essential functions.

Sleep deprivation can affect your energy levels and influence your daily behaviour.

Imagine two people following similar nutrition plans.

Person A sleeps adequately and wakes up feeling refreshed.

Person B sleeps only four or five hours and feels exhausted throughout the day.

Person B may find it more difficult to exercise, prepare healthy meals or remain physically active.

Poor sleep can also affect food choices and appetite, making it harder to maintain a consistent energy balance.

Remember: Healthy weight management is influenced by multiple factors, and sleep is an important part of the equation.

3. The Relationship Between Sleep, Stress and Weight Gain

t

Modern lifestyles are full of stress.

Work deadlines, financial responsibilities, family commitments and excessive screen time can make it difficult to switch off at night.

When stress becomes prolonged, it can affect sleep quality. Poor sleep may then make it harder to manage stress, creating a cycle that affects your overall well-being.

Cortisol is one of the hormones involved in the body’s stress response. Its levels naturally change throughout the day.

Rather than worrying about cortisol as a weight-loss enemy, focus on managing stress through healthy daily habits.

Try these simple practices:

  • Spend 10 minutes practising deep breathing.
  • Take a relaxing evening walk.
  • Avoid working right up until bedtime.
  • Write down tomorrow’s priorities before sleeping.
  • Make time for activities that help you relax.

Remember, your weight-management journey should support your mental health, not create additional pressure.

4. Why Lack of Sleep Can Affect Your Exercise Routine

You plan to wake up early, exercise for 30 minutes and follow your fitness schedule.

But after sleeping only four or five hours, your alarm rings.

You feel exhausted, postpone your workout and decide to exercise tomorrow.

Does this sound familiar?

Insufficient sleep can affect alertness, concentration, physical performance and recovery. It may also make physical activity feel more difficult.

When you consistently sleep well, you give your body a better opportunity to recover and prepare for the next day.

Five ways to protect your fitness routine:

  1. Prioritise adequate nighttime sleep.
  2. Avoid scheduling intense workouts when you are extremely exhausted.
  3. Allow sufficient recovery between demanding exercise sessions.
  4. Choose gentle movement when appropriate.
  5. Maintain a realistic exercise schedule.

Fitness is not about pushing your body every single day. It is about balancing activity with recovery.

5. How Much Sleep Do You Actually Need?

One of the most important questions is how many hours you should sleep every night.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), adults aged 18–60 should generally get at least seven hours of sleep per night.

A practical target for many adults is approximately 7–9 hours.

Age groupRecommended sleep
18–60 years7 or more hours
61–64 years7–9 hours
65+ years7–8 hours

However, sleep duration is only one part of the picture. Sleep quality and consistency also matter.

For example, sleeping for eight hours but repeatedly waking up throughout the night may leave you feeling unrefreshed.

The objective should be to develop a sleep routine that allows you to wake up feeling rested.CDC+1

6. Seven Night-Time Habits That Can Transform Your Sleep Routine

You don’t need expensive sleep products or complicated routines to improve your sleep habits.

Start with these seven practical changes.

Habit 1: Maintain a Consistent Bedtime

Try going to bed and waking up at approximately the same time every day, including weekends.

This helps establish a regular sleep-wake schedule.

Habit 2: Reduce Screen Time Before Bed

Mobile phones, laptops and television can keep your mind stimulated.

Try switching off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime.

Habit 3: Avoid Late-Night Caffeine

Coffee, tea and energy drinks contain caffeine, which can interfere with sleep.

If you are sensitive to caffeine, avoid consuming it during the afternoon and evening.

Habit 4: Create a Relaxing Bedroom

Keep your bedroom quiet, comfortable and dark.

A comfortable sleeping environment can make it easier to fall asleep.

Habit 5: Avoid Heavy Meals Close to Bedtime

Large meals immediately before sleeping may cause discomfort for some people.

Try maintaining a comfortable gap between dinner and bedtime.

Habit 6: Get Natural Daylight

Spend some time outdoors during the morning or daytime.

Natural light exposure helps regulate your body’s internal clock.

Habit 7: Practise Relaxation

Reading, gentle stretching, breathing exercises or meditation can help you wind down before bed.

These habits are consistent with CDC sleep-health recommendations. CDC+1

7. The 7-Day Sleep Reset Challenge

If your sleeping schedule has become irregular, don’t try to change everything overnight.

Start with this simple seven-day challenge.

DayYour sleep improvement task
Day 1Observe your current sleeping schedule
Day 2Set a consistent bedtime
Day 3Stop using your phone 30 minutes before bed
Day 4Avoid late-afternoon caffeine
Day 5Create a relaxing bedroom environment
Day 6Include daytime physical activity
Day 7Review your sleep quality and progress

Your challenge: Focus on building habits rather than expecting immediate weight-loss results.

After seven days, continue the habits that work best for your lifestyle.

8. Can Better Sleep Actually Help You Lose Weight?

This is perhaps the most important question.

Research suggests that sleep can influence eating behaviour and calorie consumption.

In an NIH-reported clinical trial, adults with overweight who increased their sleep duration reduced their daily calorie intake on average. This suggests that improving sleep may support weight-management efforts. However, sleep alone is not a guaranteed weight-loss treatment. National Institutes of Health (NIH)+1

Think about it this way:

  • Balanced nutrition helps you manage food intake.
  • Physical activity supports fitness and energy expenditure.
  • Sleep supports recovery and healthy appetite regulation.
  • Stress management supports emotional well-being.

These habits work together.

Instead of treating sleep as something separate from your fitness goals, make it one of the foundations of your healthy lifestyle.

9. When Should You Take Sleep Problems Seriously?

Occasional poor sleep is common. However, regularly struggling to fall asleep, waking frequently or feeling excessively sleepy during the day deserves attention.

Conditions such as insomnia and sleep apnoea can interfere with sleep quality.

If you regularly experience loud snoring, gasping during sleep, persistent daytime exhaustion or difficulty sleeping, consult a healthcare professional.

Do not rely on weight-loss supplements or sleeping products as a substitute for understanding the underlying problem.

Final Thoughts: Don’t Sacrifice Your Sleep to Achieve Your Fitness Goals

We live in a culture that often celebrates working longer, sleeping less and constantly staying busy.

People sacrifice sleep to complete work, scroll through social media, watch television or wake up early for exercise.

But here’s something worth remembering:

Your body needs recovery just as much as it needs movement and nutrition.

You can prepare healthy meals, follow a fitness routine and stay committed to your goals, but consistently ignoring sleep can make the entire process more difficult.

Start respecting your sleeping schedule.

Build a relaxing nighttime routine. Give your body enough time to recover. Make healthier choices throughout the day.

Don’t measure your success only through the weighing scale. Pay attention to your energy, mood, strength, concentration and overall well-being.

Your weight-loss journey doesn’t end when you go to bed. In fact, taking care of your sleep is another important step towards better health.

Your Daily Health Reminder

Eat well. Move regularly. Sleep peacefully. Repeat consistently.

Walking Is the Most Underrated Exercise: How a Simple Daily Walk Can Transform Your Health and Weight-Loss Journey

What if one of the most effective steps towards a healthier lifestyle was something you could start doing today, without buying expensive equipment or joining a gym?

Yes, we are talking about walking!

In a world where people spend thousands on fitness programmes, supplements and complicated workout routines, we often overlook one of the simplest physical activities: walking.

Walking might look ordinary, but making it a regular habit can create meaningful improvements in your physical and mental well-being.

The biggest advantage? You can make walking part of your everyday life.

Why Walking Deserves More Attention

Many people believe that weight loss requires intense workouts, heavy lifting or spending hours in the gym. However, sustainable weight management is about creating a balance between physical activity, nutrition, sleep and consistency.

Walking helps increase your daily energy expenditure, supports cardiovascular health and improves physical fitness.

Here are five important benefits.

1. Walking Supports Healthy Weight Management

Walking increases the amount of energy your body uses throughout the day.

When combined with balanced nutrition and other healthy lifestyle habits, regular walking can support gradual weight loss and help maintain a healthy body weight.

You don’t need to begin with 10,000 steps immediately. Start with a realistic target and gradually increase your activity.

2. Walking Improves Mental Well-Being

Have you ever noticed how a short walk can make you feel mentally refreshed after a stressful day?

Physical activity can support emotional well-being, reduce feelings of stress and improve your mood.

Walking outdoors also gives you an opportunity to disconnect from screens, enjoy nature and spend some quiet time with yourself.

Sometimes, the best way to clear your mind is to step outside.

3. Walking Supports Heart Health

Your heart is a muscle that benefits from regular physical activity.

Brisk walking can improve cardiovascular fitness and contribute to better overall heart health.

Making walking a regular habit can also support healthy blood pressure and blood sugar management.

Remember, consistency matters more than pushing yourself beyond your physical limits.

4. Walking Helps Build a Consistent Fitness Routine

One major reason people abandon exercise programmes is that they start with unrealistic expectations.

They begin exercising for an hour every day, experience exhaustion and eventually lose motivation.

Walking offers a simpler starting point.

You can begin with 10–15 minutes and gradually increase your duration as your fitness improves.

The goal is to create a routine that fits your lifestyle.

5. Walking Can Improve Your Daily Productivity

Walking is not just about physical fitness.

Taking short movement breaks during work can help you feel refreshed, reduce prolonged sitting and create a useful mental break.

Instead of spending every break scrolling through social media, consider walking for a few minutes.

Small changes can make your everyday routine more active.

Your 7-Day Walking Challenge

You don’t need to wait for Monday, the beginning of a new month or a special occasion.

Start with these simple steps.

DayWalking target
Day 110 minutes
Day 212 minutes
Day 315 minutes
Day 415 minutes
Day 520 minutes
Day 620 minutes
Day 725 minutes

These are suggested beginner targets, not medical requirements. Adjust them according to your fitness level, health and comfort.

If you are already physically active, you can choose a more challenging but manageable target.

5 Mistakes to Avoid When Starting a Walking Routine

  • Walking too fast on your first day.
  • Wearing uncomfortable footwear.
  • Ignoring pain or unusual discomfort.
  • Expecting immediate weight-loss results.
  • Giving up because you missed one day.

Remember that rest and recovery are also important parts of physical fitness.

The Psychology of Walking: Discipline Over Motivation

Here is something interesting about building a fitness habit.

You don’t need to feel motivated every morning to go for a walk.

Some days you will feel energetic. Other days you might feel tired, distracted or uninterested.

This is where discipline becomes important.

Instead of asking yourself, “Do I feel like walking today?”, ask yourself, “What is one small action I can take today to support my health?”

That simple change in thinking can help you become more consistent.

Final Thoughts: Don’t Underestimate Small Steps

We often search for complicated solutions to problems that require simple, consistent actions.

We want rapid weight loss, dramatic transformations and immediate results.

But real health improvements are often built through everyday decisions.

A 15-minute walk today may seem insignificant. But making physical activity a regular part of your lifestyle can contribute to meaningful long-term benefits.

Don’t wait until you have the perfect shoes, perfect schedule or perfect fitness plan.

Start where you are. Walk at your own pace. Build consistency.

Your fitness journey doesn’t begin with a giant leap. Sometimes, it begins with your very first step.

Your Daily Walking Reminder

Walk for your health. Walk for your happiness. Walk for your future.

Every step is an investment in yourself

Weight Loss Is Not About Eating Less, It’s About Eating Right

May Have you ever thought that starving yourself is the fastest way to lose weight? Think again!

One of the biggest misconceptions about weight loss is that you must eat less, skip meals or completely eliminate your favourite foods to achieve your desired body weight.

But the truth is that healthy weight management is not about starving your body. It is about understanding your nutritional needs and developing better eating habits.

Your body requires essential nutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and fibre to function properly. When you consistently deprive yourself of adequate nutrition, you may experience tiredness, hunger, difficulty concentrating and nutritional deficiencies.

Instead of following extreme diets, focus on making small, sustainable changes to your everyday meals.

5 Ways to Build Healthier Eating Habits

1. Include More Vegetables and Fruits

Vegetables and fruits provide essential vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre. They can help you create satisfying, nutritious meals while supporting digestive health.

Try including seasonal fruits, spinach, carrots, cucumber, broccoli and other colourful vegetables in your daily diet.

2. Make Protein a Part of Your Meals

Protein plays an important role in muscle maintenance, tissue repair and overall health. It can also help you feel satisfied after meals.

Include foods such as eggs, paneer, lentils, chickpeas, tofu, curd and lean meats according to your dietary preferences.

3. Choose Better Carbohydrate Sources

Carbohydrates are not your enemy. Your body uses them as an important source of energy.

Instead of unnecessarily eliminating rice, roti or other carbohydrate sources, consider including whole grains, oats, millets and whole-wheat products in balanced portions.

4. Stay Hydrated

Water is essential for maintaining normal body functions. Replacing sugary beverages with water can also help reduce unnecessary calorie consumption.

Keep a water bottle nearby and develop the habit of drinking water regularly throughout the day.

5. Practise Portion Awareness

Healthy eating is not just about what you eat; it is also about how much you eat.

Pay attention to hunger and fullness signals, eat slowly and avoid eating automatically while watching television or scrolling through your phone.

Stop Following Temporary Diets. Start Building Permanent Habits.

Many people follow strict diets for a few weeks, achieve some initial progress and then return to their previous eating patterns.

This happens because temporary restrictions do not necessarily teach us how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Instead, focus on habits you can realistically maintain:

  • Eat balanced meals regularly.
  • Avoid extreme calorie restrictions.
  • Include physical activity in your daily routine.
  • Get sufficient sleep.
  • Enjoy your favourite foods in moderation.
  • Be patient with your progress.

Remember that everyone’s nutritional requirements are different. Your age, activity level, health conditions and lifestyle all influence your dietary needs.

The Final Message

Weight loss should never become a punishment for your body.

You don’t need to stop enjoying food to become healthier. You need to understand food, make informed choices and develop consistency.

Don’t focus only on eating less. Focus on nourishing your body better.

Because the real goal is not simply to lose weight; it is to build a healthier, stronger and more confident version of yourself.

Daily Health Reminder

Eat smart. Move regularly. Sleep well. Stay consistent. Your health is your greatest investment.

Take A Look At The New You

Obesity and overweight can be a fatal factor for all of us. It leads to cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and diabetes, as well as a number of other serious health conditions which can have drastic implications. So it is always better to keep ourself away from it. But, human beings are prone to it at any age, even they are afraid of it. There are various reasons behind it like improper food habits, improper sleeping habits, etc. But suffering from obesity doesn’t mean that you torture yourself by going on starvation. People must know that they can get freedom from obesity with just a little amount of weight loss slowly and steadily and can live a healthy life.

Countries like US and UK are prone to obesity problems. Even children’s are not spared. It is a common fact that when a person confront obesity he/she either start staying hungry or just stick to a single diet whole through the life with a bit of physical exercise.. This is really a tedious matter. And sometimes the results are also not up to par. So when nothing works, Phentermine works in a more perfect and significant way. Approved by the US FDA as a treatment for obesity, Phentermine can help obese patients lose significant amounts of weight and keep them off.

It is a pill that helps in reducing weight by changing and restraining the urge of food, increases your metabolism, burn your calories as well as increase your energy. This drug is generally taken in empty stomach once daily before breakfast. This medication is generally taken for 9 to 14 weeks to get some confirmative result. It is strictly prescribed only to those people who are at medical risk because of their obesity problems. Besides, FDA recommends that this drug is not for a very long time usage.

Side effects such as diarrhea, impotence, insomnia and dizziness are reported to be experienced by patients. Hence it is advised to consult a doctor before starting or stopping this medicine.

Though Phentermine is receiving positive results in the recent times, but always better to follow a proper routine with balance diet. This gives us the necessary to carry out our daily activities without hampering our body physically or mentally. In fact a balanced diet enables us to have a shapely body with the appropriate amount of fat and muscles.

Diet Plans Are Meals Snacks And Water

Almost all women have been on a diet sometime in their life; I know I have. Men diet also, but not as many men diet as women. It is hard to decide which diet plan to suffer through. The first question is, which one will work for you and how hard do you have to work to make it work? Basically most of us are lazy when it comes to losing weight and we want the fastest and easiest diet plan we can find.

Sticking to a diet is hard to do. On most ‘normal’ diets you won’t get hungry. By normal I mean you eat 3 meals a day with a couple of snacks during the day and you have to drink tons of water, that is what really fills you up. You may slush around all day but you won’t get hungry.

There are many diet plans. There are the 300 pages or more diet books and there are the diet groups that meet at least once a week. Then there are some that will have meals delivered right to your door. The basic plan in these diets is each day eat 3 healthy meals, have a couple of snacks, and drink lots of water. Next you have the diet pills that come with a diet plan, 3 meals, a couple of snacks, and lots of water, plus a pill or 2 each day.

Let us not forget the fad diets, the cabbage soup diet, the boiled egg diet, the grapefruit diet, just to name a few. These diets don’t last long, you either give up or pass out. Oh yeah, you do lose weight with these diets, but you also gain it back in a hurry, plus some.

So if you are thinking about starting a diet plan, choose carefully. Frankly in my opinion, one of the ones that meets once a week is the best. You get the support of all the rest of the group, you get to meet new people, and you get some new ideas for meals. These kinds of diets teach you how to live with a food plan, not a diet, but a way of life.

So until you decide which diet plan you think you can best follow, try to eat 3 healthy meals, a couple of snacks, and drink a lot of water each day. By the time you figure out which diet you want to tackle, maybe you will of lost the weight and won’t even need a ‘diet’, because you will of found a ‘diet’ on your own, except you now call it a food plan for life.

Are You Struggling With Weight Loss Management

It doesn’t matter whether you are trying to lose five pounds or more than 50 pounds; all of the same simple laws of physics determine whether or not you will lose weight and how fast your weight loss will occur. While everyone is different, if everyone remembered these simple guidelines and put them into practice, then they would find that these guidelines would generally lead to weight loss without the aid of any special diet plans, books, or medications.

Our weight is determined by the amount of energy that we take in as food, and the amount of energy we expend in the activities of our day. Energy is measured in calories. If your weight remains constant, you are probably taking in the same amount of calories that you are burning each and every day. If you’re slowly gaining weight over time, it is likely that your caloric intake is greater than the number of calories you burn through your daily activities.

Everyone is in control of the amount of food he or she consumes each day, so as a result, our intake of calories is something we can control with relative simplicity. To some degree, we are also able to control our output of energy, or the number of calories we burn each day. The number of calories we burn each day is dependent upon:

1. Our basal metabolic rate (BMR)

2. The number of calories we burn per hour simply by being alive and maintaining bodily functions and

3. Our level of physical activity

For some people, due to genetic (inherited) factors or other conditions, their resting metabolic rate can be slightly higher or lower than average. Our weight also plays a role in determining how many calories we burn at rest – the more calories that are required to maintain your body in its present state, the greater your body weight. As an example, a person that weighs around a hundred pounds requires less energy (food) to maintain body weight than a person who weighs 200 pounds.

Lifestyle and work habits partially determine how many calories we need each day. Someone whose job involves heavy physical labor will naturally burn more calories in a day than someone who sits at a desk most of the day (a sedentary job). For people who do not have jobs that require intense physical activity, you need exercise or increased physical activity to increase the number of calories burned.

As a rough estimate, an average woman aged 31-50 who leads a sedentary lifestyle needs about 1800 calories per day to maintain a normal weight. A man of the same age requires about 2200 calories. Participating in a moderate level of physical activity (exercising 3-5 days per week) requires about 200 additional calories per day.

In order to lose weight rather than maintain it, you will want to eat sensible, well balanced meals with small portion sizes, cut down or reduce your intake of daily calories, try with your best efforts to eliminate fats from your diet and ensure that you exercise on a regular basis.

Mistakes I Made While Trying To Lose Weight

went on my first diet around five years ago. Over the past four and a half years my weight went up and down as I tried every diet and exercise program under the sun. Nothing seemed to work for me. Until six months ago I enrolled in a weight workshop which taught me that I need to change the way I look at food. It was then that I realized that I had made many mistakes in my quest to lose weight.

In this article I’m going to share with you eight mistakes I made on my quest to lose weight. I hope by sharing my experiences with others throughout the world via the internet I might be able to help people avoid the mistakes I made. So, here are the eight mistakes I made while trying to lose weight.

1. I started to skip breakfast

Most people trying to lose weight believe simply eating less and skipping meals helps shed that fat. And breakfast is a real easy meal to skip. This is one of the biggest mistakes you can make when on a weight loss diet. If you leave the house in the morning on an empty stomach you’re much more tempted to eat more at morning tea and lunch times. And, calories you eat at breakfast time are easily burnt throughout the day.

2. I would eat one day and not the next

I would literally eat about 2000+ calories one day, feel guilty, and end up eating about 700 calories the following day. If you “starve” yourself throughout the day you’re much more likely to eat more in the evenings, which is not going to help you lose weight. You should consume most of your calories in the morning.

3. I bought diet food

When I went shopping I always looked for the foods marked diet, low-fat, healthy etc. This is a good practice to get into, but I was buying these foods for the wrong reason. I bought these foods because in my mind it meant I could more. I would totally disregard portion size. If you eat diet foods in large portions you’re not doing yourself any favors.

4. I thought I’d always be fat

This is mindset that you must break if you want to lose some serious weight. Sometimes it feels like you’re doing the right things and not making any progress, this is totally natural. You need to focus on being happy and healthy and achieving your goals. Try not to get caught up in “the big picture”.

5. I started eating salads as main meals

Eating salad is a good way of keeping your calorie intake down right? Yes, meal of salad has much less calories that a pizza but does it have the satisfaction? When you eat you mind needs to get some satisfaction from what you have just eaten. I found that when I ate salads for meals a few hours later I was back I the cupboard looking for more food. I learnt that I was better off eating a balanced meal with slightly more calories than simply eating a salad and snacking afterwards.

6. I started my new diets on Mondays

When I found a new diet that I decided I was going to try I always started it on a Monday. This meant I would eat all weekend like I was never going to eat again. Doing this I was just setting myself up for failure.

7. I was to embarrassed to go to the gym

Taking the plunge and joining a gym was one of the hardest things I ever did. I was always worried that people in the gym would be staring at me and talking about me. I really thought I was too fat to join. My advice is to join a gym! You’ll be glad you did. I look forward to going to the gym now.

8. I set my goals to high

Setting long term goals is great, but these goals always seem to far off. You need to set smaller, more reachable goals that you can regularly meet to keep your motivation high. Set yourself weekly, monthly and three monthly goals. Once you meet one short term goal set a new one for next week.

So there you have it, those are the mistakes I made. I now look at weight loss from a totally different perspective and it has paid off. I now help others with weight loss and keeping healthy.

Spare Change And Calories They All Add Up

My young son, like most toddlers, has a piggy bank. Every evening he and his Daddy have fun putting spare change from Dad’s pockets into the pig. In fact, we’ve had to empty the pig contents several times in the past months. It sure does fill up quickly. Before the pig, the spare change was just left lying on the dresser, leaving us with a big mess, and no idea how much had accumulated.

What do piggy banks and food choices have in common? I honestly would have had no idea before this past week when I decided to start keeping a food journal. Calories are a lot like the spare change from my husband’s pockets, they add up fast. Unfortunately, before I started writing them all down, they were exactly like the mess on our dresser, only harder to clean up, or loose.

Since having my son two-and-a-half years ago, I have attempted numerous times to loose the extra ‘baby weight’. Although becoming harder to do so everyday, I have to laugh at the ‘baby weight’ excuse. Honey, the so called ‘baby weight’ was lost when the bundle made his first shrill squeal at the hospital. What I’m packing around is twenty pounds of pocket change with no pig to put it in…

At the end of the first day of ‘food journaling’, I expected to discover a miraculous remedy for what’s ailing me…and guess what? I did. I discovered that… I eat too much. Huh? That’s it? I eat too much? Actually, it’s not the quantity, most of the time anyway, but the choices that are the problem. But come on, I had no idea that one stinking piece of American cheese had seventy calories, and forty-five of them came from fat. Boy, nibbling on a few of those through out the day can shoot your entire plan to heck.

The first day I just ate and wrote it all down. Other than trying to remember to jot down the food and calories for each bit I ate, I didn’t change a thing. After needing to use a calculator to add it all up that night, the reality was heavier than all of the piggy bank change in the world. I really needed to make some healthier choices in what I was consuming each day.

Food journaling has opened my eyes not only to how my choices were preventing weight loss, but how easy it is to just pop quick snacks into my mouth rather than planning my meals for the day. I’ve also taken up another foreign concept…the art of exercise. Just like emptying the pig when it gets too full, I’m depositing extra calories everyday with some very much needed walking.

At the end of your day, are you just dumping your spare change on the dresser, or do you keep count of how much you’ve accumulated? Come on. You can do it. You’ll be surprised at how fast those nickels…ahem, calories, can add up! Bank those calories in your own food journal today.

The most important picture you will ever change in your subconscious mind is the picture you now have of yourself right now. You will start with this image. You will start recreating your subconscious imagery by recreating your existing body picture. Before starting your imagery training, it is important that you become totally relaxed in order to focus your mind. Once you have accomplished this, you will find it is quite easy to engage all of your senses, making it possible for you to create a new body image. Once you feel you are completely relaxed, I want you to see a picture of your body in your subconscious mind. When you have your body in focus, I want you to reshape it, to exactly how you want it to look.

See your new body down to the smallest detail; make it become so real that it seems that you have already accomplished your weight goal. Once you have your new body picture completed, place yourself in a physical activity that you know you would enjoy and will be beneficial in helping you attain your new weight goal. This activity can be anything from a brisk walk to an aerobics class, to playing tennis, to completing an unfinished task. Your new body is now capable of performing any activity that you find enjoyable.

The emotional states that drive you to overeat or eat when you are not hungry are fear, guilt and anger. These emotional states are responsible for depression and low self-esteem. When creating your new self-image, you must exchange these negative emotional states for your most powerful emotional state. Love is your most powerful emotional state especially when directed to your new self-image. It is essential that you practice reproducing your new active body change of any behavior.

Putting A Stop To Food Cravings

Putting A Stop To Food Cravings

Most of us don’t eat the perfect diet and we have struggles with food, same as everyone else. Having an awareness of this and knowing a little bit about our health and food nutrition can help when it comes to making wise decisions.

Many people struggle with food “cravings.” Studies tell us that it’s fairly common for food cravings to happen quite often at around bedtime. Your guard may be down, you may have had an unusually hard day, and off you go on your not-so-merry way to find that tasty treat.

When food cravings are unconstrained, what starts out as a bedtime snack quickly turns into a full blown feeding frenzy. We head to the kitchen and every other place where food can hide, clearing a path as we go.

Most food cravings are not about satisfying a nutritional need or imbalance. They seem to be more emotionally related, or God forbid, are caused by plain old gluttony. Exactly why we over-indulge is not completely understood.

Listed below are some thoughts and ideas about food cravings:

– If the food isn’t available, you can’t eat it! Empty the cookie jar and keep it that way! Keep healthy food choices on-hand.

– Recognize the feelings and emotions that lead-up to a food craving. Do you have food cravings when you’re bored, lonely, or stressed? If you can identify a trigger, you can deal with the emotion that’s making you desire a certain food.

– Don’t beat yourself-up. There is always tomorrow. Call a friend, make good use of your support network and share your feelings with someone.

– Get enough sleep. When you’re tired, you’re more likely to crave things.

– Never give-up. When you “slip”, do whatever is necessary to re-gain control. Try to practice restraint most of the time,

Think moderation and not abstinence at all times!

– Understand that self-control and discipline by themselves, won’t cut it! If you depend totally on yourself for control, you will fail. Forming caring and supportive relationships is required. If you do not currently have a support network, start building one TODAY.

– Exercise. It increases feel-good endorphins that cut down on your cravings. Try to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day.

– Use moderation. Instead of stuffing yourself with every kind of food hoping that your craving will go away, eat 100 to 200 calories of your “craved” food.

– Substitute with low-fat foods and complex carbs. If you’re hungry for chocolate, eat non-fat chocolate yogurt. Try fig bars or raisins for a sweet craving.

– Never skip a meal. Eat every three to five hours. Try six smaller meals or regular meals with nutritious snacks.

– Understand that hunger cravings are oftentimes stress related; walk in the park, spiritual connections, a cozy fireplace, baths…all these stimulate regions of the brain that stimulate pleasure. Relaxation techniques may also work. Bottom line, substitute pleasurable experiences for comfort foods.

– Beware of certain medications. They can stimulate appetite. Drugs used for the treatment of depression and bipolar disorder can be appetite stimulants. Other drugs, both prescription and over the counter, may influence appetite as well. If you are on a medication, and troubled by food cravings, discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist. You may be able to find an alternative that doesn’t send your cravings out of control.

– Distract Yourself. Get busy. Do anything other than cave-in to your desire for food.

– Look inside your refrigerator and kitchen cabinets and do some “house cleaning.” Throw-out that unhealthy stuff and start shopping more wisely. Careful planning will go a long way for improving your chances of success.

Eat wisely, be happy, and live long!

Weight Loss Secrets Revealed

Weight Loss Secrets Revealed

When people lose weight, everyone wants to know their secret. Now, you too can have the secrets to safe, healthy weight loss without the hunger pains.

Here’s the scenario. You run into Megan. She’s an old college friend. You know the one. She was pudgy and wore loose shirts and blue jeans to camouflage the extra weight she often put on because of her fondness for Twinkies. You stop and do a double take. Is that really Megan? The face is basically the same, but the body definitely isn’t. Gone are the baggy clothes. She’s dressed in a form-fitting skirt and top that hug every curve. She looks fantastic. What’s your first question going to be?

“Megan, what are your weight loss secrets?”

It’s a question we ask of anyone who has undergone a total body transformation. We feel that little twinge of envy if we are wanting to lose weight to. There is nothing we’d rather know than weight loss secrets that could speed up the process, making it easier for us to lose weight and look and feel better about ourselves.

What if I told you that I could give you two weight loss secrets destined to change your life? If you’re a realist, you’d probably tell me that I was full of hot air. You may even tell me you’d heard plenty of weight loss secrets and none of them had done a thing to help you in your quest. I’m here to tell you today that I have two points to make that could jumpstart your weight loss.

Probably the most important of the weight loss secrets is something you probably already know but may have forgotten. It’s that to lose weight, you must cut calories. I know, this is common knowledge, but people seem to forget it sometimes. So many individuals worry about counting carbohydrates or fat grams, forgetting the whole scientific process behind losing weight. A calorie is a unit of the amount of energy in food. One calorie of grapefruit is burned off in the same way as one calorie of pizza. One of the best weight loss secrets is learning how to practice moderation. Overindulging means packing on more weight because your body takes in too many calories.

The second weight loss secret I want to disclose to you is the key to unlocking the first one. Sure, you know cutting calories is the most important of weight loss secrets, but the problem is that it’s hard to do. When you’re hungry, you want to eat! Sometimes, you don’t want to munch on a celery stick or an apple. You want something that leaves you satisfied. Now, you’re in luck. You don’t have to pop a diet pill to feel “full” and curb hunger pains. The new discovery of an African cactus-style plant has totally changed the way you have to view weight loss. Hoodia Gordonii is one of the newest weight loss secrets available to aid you on your quest for the perfect figure.

While many companies claim to have weight loss secrets guaranteed to help you lose weight, these ideas often pose health risks. Hoodia Gordonii is 100% safe. This vegetable actually tricks your brain into thinking you’ve already eaten. You feel satisfied, you’re not hungry, and you cut your calories easily as you watch the pounds melt away.

Combining Hoodia Gordonii with a low calorie diet will enable you to achieve the weight loss results you only dreamed of. Say goodbye to the extra weight and watch yourself evolve into the person you’ve always wanted to be!

The Basics Of The Low Carb Diet And How To Succeed With It

The Basics Of The Low Carb Diet And How To Succeed With It

Dieting is one of the favorite past times of many people today. But what then is the reason for such activity? Well, there are only two main reasons for dieting, the first is to lose weight, and the other one is to improve health, or even both.

So today, those who are deformed and overweight are engaging in the low carb dieting for their better health and vitality. However, it is interesting to know that not only those who are deformed and overweight who are after the low carb diet. In fact, even those who are healthy and who are not overweight were able to maintain their vitality and health by following the basics of the low carb diet.

The low carb diet is noted to have given great benefits to most of the people. In fact, the low carb diet is considered as the best diet fad that strikes at the true cause of obesity, high cholesterol, hypoglycemia, high blood pressure, and diabetes. With such effect that the low carb diet contributes, many doctors and nutritionists are now starting to recognize the nature about the low carb diet.

Generally, the low carb diet has various versions. Among the well-known versions of the low carb diet include the Protein Power, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, Neanderthin, The Carbohydrates Addict’s Lifestyle Plan, Life without Bread, and much more. It is then considered that all of these versions of the low carb diet have one thing in common, and that is a very strict diminution in the intake of carbohydrates. And this particular thing in common among these mentioned versions of the low carb diet is the main reason that they are considered as part of the low carb diet.

Most of these kinds of diet largely replace the carbohydrates with fats and proteins. Even though the diet differ in their recommendations, it is very nice to recognize that the low carb diet, as the general rule applies, is synonymous with a high-fat and moderate protein diet. It is then noted that those on such kind of diet must get at least sixty to seventy percent of their regular calorie consumption from fat. The carbohydrates should then make up for less than ten percent, and in some instances, for less than five percent of their daily calorie consumption.

Lastly, on the low carb diet, you are given the opportunity to eat until you are full, as long as you eat only those foods that are allowed for your diet. So to mention, some of the allowed foods for low carb diet include meats, fish, poultry, and cheese, which are then coupled with a limited amount of green vegetables. It is just necessary to stay away from those not allowed foods if you want to have the best results.
